bohemian-ruby-flash-engraved-glass-decanters-pair
Bohemian Ruby Flash Engraved Glass Decanters, Pair

Late 19th–Early 20th Century – Bohemian Glass – Matched Pair of Ruby Flash Engraved Decanters with Stoppers

Origin:

These striking decanters are characteristic of the celebrated Bohemian (Czech) glassmaking tradition, most likely produced in the Egerland or Karlsbad region of Bohemia circa 1880–1910. Each piece is crafted in ruby flash glass — a layer of vivid red glass fused over a clear base — then wheel-engraved to reveal luminous white-on-red decorative motifs including grape clusters, vine and fern foliage, scrollwork, and architectural vignettes around the shoulder. The quatrefoil-waisted body, concave vertical panels, and ball-form stopper with a ring of polished dots are hallmarks of high-quality Bohemian export glassware from this era. Unmarked, in the style of Egermann and allied Bohemian glasshouses active in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.

Condition:

Both decanters present in very good vintage condition

Glass retains strong, vivid ruby color with excellent clarity

Engraved decoration crisp and well-defined on both pieces

Stoppers intact and present on both decanters

Minor age-appropriate patina consistent with antique glassware; no chips or cracks observed

Details:

Material: Ruby flash (overlay) glass with wheel-engraved decoration

Form: Squared, waisted body with concave vertical panels; globe stopper with polished dot banding

Motifs: Grape and vine clusters, fern foliage, scrollwork, architectural vignettes

Sold as a matched pair

Origin: Bohemia (Czech Republic), attributed c. 1880–1910

Perfect for:

Bar carts and drinks trolleys seeking a Victorian or antique accent

Display shelving, sideboards, or dining room vignettes

Collectors of Bohemian, Czech, or Victorian glassware

Maximalist, eclectic, or heritage-inspired interiors

A refined housewarming or wedding gift

Design Notes:

The rich ruby flash technique — where engraving cuts through red to reveal sparkling clear glass beneath — was a signature achievement of 19th-century Bohemian craftsmen and remains among the most visually arresting effects in antique glassware. As a matched pair, these decanters carry an added rarity and display impact that single examples simply cannot replicate. Placed on a bar cart or sideboard, they cast jewel-toned shadows and catch light with a theatrical warmth that is entirely their own.
