Early 20th Century Andalusian Revival – Architectural Mirror Panel – Collector’s Decorative Piece
Austrian / European Modernism – Minimalist Walnut Design
Origin:
A finely crafted Andalusian Revival mirror panel inspired by the architectural language of the Alhambra in Granada, produced in the early 20th century. The design reflects the Nasrid style with its densely layered arabesque carving, Kufic and Thuluth calligraphy, and the iconic horseshoe and polylobed arches characteristic of Moorish Spain. Similar framed reductions and “Alhambra panels” were popular decorative objects between 1900–1940, created for collectors and tourists visiting Granada’s palaces. Comparable examples appear in Bloomsbury’s Grand Tour decorative collection and pieces attributed to artisans like Rafael Rus Acosta.
The frame itself is richly ornamented with gilt and patinated borders, complementing the architectural window motif. The panel showcases extraordinary detail in both the geometric inscriptions and the recessed archways, creating depth and a sculptural presence on the wall.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. The relief work is sharp and well-preserved, the gilt frame shows only light age toning, and the mirror portions remain clear with minor natural patina typical for pieces of this era. Ready to hang.
