20th Century – British Colonial Wing Chair – Baker Furniture
Origin:
A British Colonial wing chair by Baker Furniture, one of the most respected names in twentieth-century American design. Founded in 1890, Baker built a reputation on craftsmanship so exacting that the Smithsonian welcomed one of its chairs into its permanent collection. Across the decades the house collaborated with design legends — Finn Juhl, Kem Weber, and T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings — and its vintage pieces remain quietly coveted by collectors.
Hand-woven natural rattan rises over a bamboo-style frame, drawn into the sweeping winged sides and gracefully contoured silhouette that define the British Colonial style — that rare meeting point of relaxed island ease and old-world sophistication. The generously padded back and seat cushions wear a soft geometric weave in a neutral tone. The original Baker Furniture label remains intact.

Design Notes:
The winged silhouette gives the chair real architectural presence — relaxed yet composed. The natural rattan weave brings warmth and texture, while the generous proportions make it as comfortable as it is sculptural. Few survive in condition this well preserved, making it as much a collector's piece as a place to sit.
