Early 20th Century Andalusian Revival – Miniature Alhambra Archwork Panel

Hand-Carved Mudéjar-Style Architectural Relief with Mirror – Granada/Seville School

Origin:

A finely detailed early 20th-century Andalusian Revival miniature architectural panel, inspired directly by the arches, stucco carving, and ornamental geometry of the Alhambra in Granada and the palatial Mudéjar architecture of southern Spain. Pieces of this type were produced by skilled artisans in Granada and Seville between the late 1800s and mid-1900s, often sold as collectible “Grand Tour” souvenirs to travelers exploring Spain’s Islamic architectural heritage.

This example features a deeply carved double-arched façade framed by Kufic-style and Nasrid-style inscriptions, surrounded by intricate vegetal and geometric patterns characteristic of Nasrid stucco work. The craftsmanship and crisp detailing closely resemble documented works by Granada ateliers such as Rafael Rus Acosta, known for producing high-quality reductions of Alhambra architectural elements. The gilded and polychromatic finish enriches the bas-relief, giving it the warmth and complexity typical of early 20th-century Mudéjar revival pieces.

Condition:

Beautiful vintage condition with age-appropriate wear to the gilding and frame, which enhances its historical character. The relief carving remains sharp and structurally sound, and the mirror has mild patina consistent with vintage Andalusian decorative art. Fully ready for display.

Size:

  • Width: 20 cm
  • Height: 27cm

Details:

This piece captures the essence of Spain’s architectural golden age — from its scalloped arches and multi-layered stucco to the graceful proportions of its double window form. The mirror surface beneath the arches creates a dynamic play of depth, light, and reflection, mimicking the way sunlight moves through real palace arcades.

The frame itself is period-appropriate, featuring layered gilding, Moorish borders, and a warm antiqued patina. Whether hung individually or as part of an Andalusian-themed wall, it serves as a sculptural, historically rich focal point.

Perfect for:

  • Collectors of Islamic or Andalusian art
  • Interiors with Mediterranean, Moorish, or Spanish Revival influences
  • Entryways, hallways, reading rooms, or gallery walls
  • Those who appreciate architectural miniature craftsmanship and heritage décor
