1960s – Danish Mid-Century Modern – Søholm Model 3046 Stoneware Table Lamp by Maria Philippi
Origin:
An authentic Søholm Stentøj Model 3046 table lamp, designed by Maria Philippi in Denmark during the 1960s. Founded on the island of Bornholm in 1835, Søholm was one of Denmark’s oldest and most celebrated ceramic manufacturers, renowned for its collaborations with influential designers and its distinctive approach to Scandinavian studio pottery.
Model 3046 is a particularly elegant example of Philippi’s work for Søholm. The sculptural ceramic base combines a softly matte ecru-toned upper section with a deep navy/cobalt-blue glazed lower body, creating the restrained contrast of texture and colour characteristic of Danish modern design. The lower section is finished with a finely notched vertical relief, allowing the glossy glaze to collect within the surface and create subtle variations of depth and shadow.
The base is marked and signed “MP” for Maria Philippi, supporting its authenticity and attribution to her work for Søholm.

Design Notes:
The beauty of Model 3046 lies in its restraint. Philippi pairs the softness of matte ecru ceramic with a saturated navy-blue glaze, while the deeply textured lower body transforms the lamp as light moves across its surface. The contrast between matte and gloss, smooth and incised, gives an otherwise simple silhouette remarkable depth.
Both functional lighting and collectible Danish ceramic design, this piece embodies the warmth, craftsmanship, and quiet sophistication associated with 1960s Scandinavian modernism — a distinctive Søholm design and a rare find in Jeddah’s vintage market.
