Mid-20th Century – Rare Find – Collector’s Item
Venetian freeform glassmaking
Origin:
This sculptural mid-century Murano-style art glass bowl is a beautiful example of hand-formed “cloud glass” — a technique popular in Italy and America from the 1950s through the 1970s. Its organic folds and milky-pink opalescent tones reflect the influence of Venetian freeform glassmaking, where artisans shape molten glass by hand to achieve one-of-a-kind silhouettes.
Though unsigned, the quality, coloration, and swirling distribution of opaline pigments strongly reference Murano studio work and American art glass houses inspired by it.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. Subtle air bubbles and light pigment speckling are consistent with hand-blown glass. No chips, cracks, or structural issues.
Size:
- Height: ~10 cm
- Diameter (widest point): ~11 cm
Details:
This piece features a fluid, ruffled rim that appears to “bloom” outward, resting on a textured sculptural base. The soft pink opalescent glass creates a delicate cloud-like effect, shifting in transparency when hit by light. The swirled patterns inside the glass give it depth and movement, making it both dreamy and visually striking.
A perfect example of expressive mid-century art glass — feminine, airy, and full of character.
