Mid-20th Century – Great Find – Collector’s Item

American Modernism – Sculptural Brass Mahogany Design

Origin:

This striking pair of sculptural mid-century angel-fish figures is inspired by the American modernist tradition of the 1950s–1970s, reminiscent of decorative works produced by studios such as Frederick Cooper and similar high-end makers. Crafted from richly stained mahogany with brass-accented fins, each fish is mounted on a clean rectangular wood plinth, giving the pair a commanding presence. Their sleek geometry, elongated fins, and stylized Art Deco–influenced curves place them firmly within the lineage of American decorative sculpture — where craftsmanship, glamour, and mid-century elegance converge.

Condition:

Excellent vintage condition with minimal wear consistent with age. Brass accents retain a warm sheen. Wood surfaces remain smooth, polished, and structurally solid. Both sculptures are stable and display beautifully as a pair.

Details:

This elegant mid-century table showcases the harmony of form and material through its balanced proportions, solid walnut construction, and gently sculpted circular top. The three slender, tapered legs provide stability while emphasizing the vertical lightness typical of European modernist furniture. Its warm wood grain and understated silhouette allow it to blend seamlessly into a variety of interiors — from Scandinavian and Viennese modern to contemporary minimalist spaces. Whether used as a side table, plant pedestal, or display stand, it brings a quiet sophistication to any room.

Perfect for:

  • Mid-century modern or Art Deco interiors
  • Coastal or tropical-themed homes
  • Bookshelves, consoles, or office display
  • Collectors of sculptural decorative objects
  • Statement styling in entryways or living rooms
