German-born Marianne Starck became one of the defining designers of Michael Andersen & Son’s mid-century production, bringing her background in graphic and ceramic arts into a distinctive vocabulary of sculptural forms, geometric decoration, relief work, and expressive glazes.

This example features a tall, architectural ceramic body finished in a wonderfully rich brown hare’s-fur glaze, whose subtle tonal variations give the surface an almost organic depth. Around the lower section, six oval relief motifs are arranged against contrasting beige and brown grounds, introducing a graphic rhythm to the otherwise restrained silhouette.
