1930s – Art Deco – Figural Frosted Crystal Vase

Origin:

This elegant vase belongs to the celebrated "Ingrid" line produced by the Bohemian glassworks of Curt Schlevogt in Gablonz an der Neisse (present-day Jablonec nad Nisou, Czech Republic), with form and decoration attributed to designer Artur Plewa, circa 1934–1938. The piece combines mould-pressed lead crystal with acid-frosted satin relief panels depicting draped female figures in graceful movement — a technique Schlevogt perfected during the height of the Art Deco period and one that is frequently compared to the work of René Lalique. Comparison against documented auction records confirms this attribution with high confidence. Unmarked, consistent with the majority of Schlevogt Ingrid pieces, which typically bore only paper labels now lost to time.

Condition:

  • Excellent vintage condition throughout
  • No chips, cracks, or repairs visible
  • Glass retains strong clarity in the polished panels
  • Frosted figural relief is crisp and well-defined
  • Minor surface patina consistent with age and authentic to period

Design Notes:

The Ingrid line represents the pinnacle of Schlevogt's artistic output — a Bohemian answer to French prestige glassware that rivalled Lalique in technical sophistication and figural expressiveness. The interplay between the satin-frosted relief and the clear faceted panels creates a shifting, luminous quality as light moves across the surface, making this piece as compelling displayed on a shelf as it is holding flowers. A rare and well-documented collector's object that arrives in Jeddah in exceptional condition.
