Late 19th–Early 20th Century Baluch Tribal Weaving – Collector’s Textile – Great Find

Hand-Knotted Persian/Afghan Baluch Rug – Deep Tribal Geometry & Natural Dyes

Origin:

A beautifully preserved hand-knotted Baluch tribal rug, originating from the Afghanistan–Eastern Persia border region, crafted between the late 19th and early 20th century. Rugs of this style were traditionally woven by nomadic Baluch communities, known for their rich geometric symbolism, saturated natural dyes, and deeply personal tribal motifs. The palette — deep indigo, madder red, burnt orange, and earth tones — reflects the classic Baluch aesthetic, with repeating medallions and angular floral forms echoing the cultural identity of the region.

This piece evokes the same visual language found in antique Baluch carpets from Ferdows, Herat, and Khorasan — often prized for their graphic contrast and intimate scale. Similar examples are found in museum collections and specialist dealers such as Knight’s Antiques and Chairish.

Condition:

Excellent vintage condition for its age. The pile is even, the structure is stable, and the colors remain vibrant. Minor age-related wear at edges and fringe, fully consistent with antique tribal rugs and part of their authenticity and charm. Clean and ready for use or display.

Size:

  • Height: 195 cm
  • Diameter: 113 cm

Details:

This elegant mid-century table showcases the harmony of form and material through its balanced proportions, solid walnut construction, and gently sculpted circular top. The three slender, tapered legs provide stability while emphasizing the vertical lightness typical of European modernist furniture. Its warm wood grain and understated silhouette allow it to blend seamlessly into a variety of interiors — from Scandinavian and Viennese modern to contemporary minimalist spaces. Whether used as a side table, plant pedestal, or display stand, it brings a quiet sophistication to any room.
